Sept 26/27 shows at The Cellar and guest spot on 102.7fm

Mark your calendars everyone, I’ll be playing Sept 26 & 27 at my favourite Vancouver jazz club The Cellar. This time however, there will be no songs in odd time signatures, no overly complicated arrangements, no 5-page long piano charts or notated bass lines riddled with 16th notes, and (probably) no nostalgic tales about life in modern day Shanghai, … in other words, we won’t be playing my music.

Instead, it’s time for a look back in history, to pay tribute to some of the early masters of jazz clarinet such as Sidney Bechet, Jimmie Noone, Johnny Dodds, Barney Bigard and others who laid the foundation of jazz clarinet in the 1920s and ’30s.
