Feb 12 – Tribute To The Clarinet Trios Of The 1930s

I’ve been advised that I should start hyping my upcoming gigs earlier sooo … Come one, come all to my show at The Cellar next month, February 12. Doors open at 7pm, sets are at 8:30 & 10:15, $10 cover.
For more information about the club, including the address and phone # for reservations (this show might actually be kind of busy) click here.

The title says it all, we’ll be playing some more swinging music by the likes of Benny Goodman, Barney Bigard, Jelly Roll Morton, and others. The trio format of clarinet, piano, and drums is one not seen very often these days probably because it requires a pianist with the rare ability to cover the piano and bass part, a technically demanding style of piano playing otherwise known as stride piano.

There are so many fantastic piano players in Vancouver but the only one I could envision covering this part was the great Miles Black. Swinging away on the drum set will be the one and only Joe Poole.

Hope to see you there!
