Final Recording Delivered to McGill, What’s Next? … Karaoke Stardom Of Course!!

Karaoke-Harbin6303733Hello, good morning, and welcome to the Saturday Morning News Post!

Readers, I’m on a ferry.  Heading to Saltspring for a short camping trip after finishing my final recording for McGill University.  Assuming they don’t fail me, come October I’ll be printing business cards with MFA on it,… either way I should probably print some new cards since I’m still using cards with my Shanghai cell # on them (Hey!  They’re nice cards, okay?!)

Anyways, the recording’s done, and if I had to guess, I’d bet the teachers will say something like “Hmm, nice melodies, orchestration needs some work,… fuckin Danderfer never rehearses his music enough!”

Perhaps.  But McGill jazz faculty, if you’re reading this, before you deliver judgement, consider just how much more time it takes to prepare an hours worth of large ensemble music versus an hours worth of extended-solo riddled modern jazz tunes.  I’ve got 13 tracks of arrangement heavy tunes on that mother!  Consider how difficult it is to get an entire big band of university students to rehearse and record for zero dollars.  And finally, consider what a great guy I am and all the beautiful times we shared, the joy, the laughter, the tears.  I mean come on!

For now, I’m assuming that I will pass, and as such it’s time to move on.  Like a lone caterpillar, emerging from a cocoon to reveal it’s newfound butterfly wings I am ready to fly!

Where to?  Why, the karaoke clubs of course!  Ive been working on singing for quite some time, and I’m convinced that the reason I still don’t sound that good isn’t because of a lack talent,… it’s a lack of experience!  Maybe.

Well, there’s two ways to remedy that and the other involves making a fool of myself in front of bandmates I highly respect.  So karaoke it is!

This week, I’m going to find at least 2 karaoke jams to jam out in.  Tune in next week to see what happens!

Thanks for reading and have a great week everybody! jd
