morning, and welcome to the Saturday Morning News Post!
Readers, we are 23 days into the New Year and time and tide wait for no man.
December distracted me with presents, food, drink and heartburn just long enough for January to find a good recipe on Epicurious, go shopping, bake a banana cream pie, and slam it into my fat face. (January, it is OVER between us. I give you 8 days to pack your shit and GET OUT!!)
Luckily, my year doesn’t really start until Chinese New Year, and this is one bad-ass year,… the Year of the DRAGON. And I am feelin’ it! It’s time for a scaly, slithery, angry, fire-breathin’ plan of action!
As many long-time readers know, I’m a fan of the Artistic Plan. I like writing about it, talking about it, doodling about it, even dreaming about it; I just never have enough time to actually do it.
I know what you’re thinking… “Dude, you’re crazy! You are the MAN when it comes to planning. Look at the Patricia show coming up, and the albums you’re about drop!”
It’s not nothing. It’s a start. But I’ll point out two things…
1.) These albums have been in the works for years… and that’s too long. No, no,… it really is.
2.) I’m not developing a real plan, so much as, deadlines.
Deadlines, especially “hard” deadlines, are indeed an important part of any plan but come on MAN!. It’s not the whole damn thing, especially when some of these deadlines require money to be invested (like trying to organize a recording of the Hummingbird Brigade), then you need some number crunching, some peripheral planning (like how to promote a recording once it’s been made, in hopes of getting some of that investment back, etc.), and in general, a greater sense of direction. Not “Okay, this is my muthaf@*#!n PLAN for the next 10 years!” But a little “Okay, I’d like to be headed in this direction over the next 5 years.”
And so I gotta give it up to John Stiernberg, who wrote this article called Business Chops: How Do I Find Time to Do the Planning?
It’s a short article but it’s clear and concise. Check it out!
Meanwhile, I am hereby “bookin’ the date” and making this week officially “the Artistic Plan” week.
Do it with me! Or don’t,… and I’ll just let you know how it goes.
Thanks for reading! And to all my Chinese friends 新年快乐!
