morning, and welcome to the Saturday Morning News Post!
Oh what a time we had at Pat’s Pub last Thursday with Joe Poole and guest pianist John Stetch! So exciting to play with John for the 1st time, what a musician! We ended up playing a few of my songs, some Jelly Roll Morton numbers, and then some standards to round out the evening.
A big THANK YOU to Pat’s Pub for having us and to everyone who came out to the show to support us. If only I had the time or space in this SMNP to thank each and every one of you individually.
Oh wait, there were only 14 people. I can totally thank each and every one of you!
Thanks Andrea’s cousin!
Thanks Gerry’s friend!
You were a great crowd and a pleasure to play for.
Yes, you could say it was a poor turnout. Accessible, fun music, brilliant guest pianist from NY, great venue, well priced food/drink/tickets, good posters, beautiful grand piano (tuned that morning thanks to Pat’s Pub), Joe Poole in suspenders… we had it all folks. And yet, 14 people.
Emails, blogs, tweets, fb event updates, posters, radio promo, events listings on 4 different web sites, etc., etc.. There’s always something I could’ve done better but, I don’t know… sometimes, you just don’t get’em.
Some would blame Vancouver, or condos, VIFF opening night, the price of real estate, or West Coast apathy but I don’t see the point. If I can’t get more than 14 people out to a show like this, then I’m probably doing something wrong. I’m just not sure what yet.
Anyways, I’ll think about it and get back to you. Like I said, the music was a lot of fun. Many pianists would’ve been frustrated at having so much unfamiliar music thrown at them but John was extremely gracious and brought a beautifully textured character to the music. I hope we get a chance to do it again soon.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading and have a great week everyone!
