Clarinetists leading big bands. Who knows how it started? Who knows why it ended? And who cares?! The point is it’s a thing. Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, and then…? It seems clear that the world has been waiting for it’s next clarinetist run big band.
Well HELLO world! You can stop waiting and start writing this date in your calendar:

That’s right. We’re building
on the fun New Orleans brass band inspired sound of The Hummingbird Brigade and turning it into BIG band music! 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 4 saxes, bass, drums, and a CLARINET. Also included is our special guest, the talented singer/MC Kia Kadiri. Come on!
Why go to the trouble of writing music for such a BIG band? Because I’m a composer darn it, and composers like to compose for ensembles with range. A range of tonal colours, a range of dynamics, a range of soloists, etc. Imagine a painter getting to paint on a 10 x 12 canvas; there’s just so much you could do! It’s very exciting.
Also exciting? There will be beer and wine available at the show. Sunday afternoon beers? One of my favourite things to do!
It’s an all-ages, family friendly show so if you like fun music and drinks then PLEASE come out and support us. It’s a big group to put together so we’d sure love to see a full house.

Okay, I have to get back to work on this music!
