Hello, and welcome to the Saturday (Morning) News Post!
I know. I know. You've been without the SMNP for 3 weeks now. Tough stuff. I get it. There are probably upwards of two very disappointed readers out there.
Well, two things happened. My kids got really sick for a week (they're fine now thanks to our family doctor and the miracle of modern medicine) and then I was sooo busy preparing for a recent concert with the Vancouver Jazz Orchestra (Vancouverjazzorchestra.ca ) for which I am the artistic director, lead saxophonist, and librarian.
The VJO concert went well, although next time I plan to have two rehearsals instead of one. It's a bigger ask for the band members but I think it's going to feel more musically satisfying and a little less intense. We were playing the music of Thad Jones on this last show and it was HARD music to get together in one rehearsal; too hard, really.
Our next show is February 4, at The Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, with special guest tenor saxophonist Seamus Blake and it's going to be cookin! Tickets available through the Shadbolt website, it's all part of Cory Weeds' (also executive director of the VJO) 'Jazz at the Bolt' concert weekend.
Ok, I'm going to leave it at that for now. Thanks for reading and I'll be back next Saturday!
